Days Out

There are days out to suit everyone in South Devon whatever the weather. From outdoor sports to exploring towns and villages. From farm parks, to historic houses and castles. We have explored the area thoroughly and here are some of our favourites.

  • Kents Caverns, Torquay. This is a great rainy day activity to do with the kids.

  • Plymouth Aquarium- This is a great aquarium, your ticket lasts a whole year so you can go back as many times as you like. It has a small soft play area near the café for kids to enjoy.

  • Pennywell Farm- If you buy your tickets online then you get a £5 gift voucher for the shop for every child ticket purchased. We had a great day at Pennywell Farm there are loads of activities and plenty of opportunities to handle a variety of small animals.

  • Pottery Painting, Kingsbridge. The Art Café is great, reasonably priced with excellent food and cakes (it is run by a chef!). We love visiting there on a rainy day (or a sunny one too).

  • Quayside Leisure Centre, Kingsbridge- Lots of sports and activities available. There is also a swimming pool if you fancy water a little warmer than the sea!

  • Crabbing- It is great fun to go crabbing off the quay in Kingsbridge. You need to go when the tide is high ish. Bacon can be used as the bait. You will need a crabbing net and bucket which are available to buy in the town.

  • Surfing- The best locations for surfing and body boarding are Bantham, Bigbury, Challaborough. You can check the surf report online at Magic Seaweed. There are two local surf schools- Bantham Surfing Academy and Discovery Surf.

  • Canoeing, sailing, stand up paddle boarding & kayaking-

· Canoe Adventures, Tuckenhay

· Totnes Kayaks, Stoke Gabriel

· Waterborn Stand Up Paddle Boards, based at The Crabshell Inn, Kingsbridge

· Salcombe Dinghy Sailing, Salcombe

· Tri-Ocean Surf, Churchstow Business Park also hires all types of equipment for surfing, canoeing etc.

  • Climbing for children from 4 years old up to adults- Clip & Climb Exeter or Plymouth.

  • Go Ape, Haldon Forest- Why not head into the forest for a high-wire adventure, a Zip Trekking Adventure, or a Forest Segway Experience. Great fun for all the family.
