Lower Coombe Royal Garden Activities

As you have probably gathered by now, we are located in a wonderful haven and environmentally protected and safe, eight acres of gardens. Some have described them as a ‘Swallows and Amazons’ experience or even ‘Famous Five’! We are slowly restoring the gardens so that all can enjoy them. This is our natural play area we would like to share with children and adults alike!

As you wander around you should find:

  • a tailor made climbing frame with an eight foot look out tower
  • Little Tykes wendy house and sandpits
  • picnic benches
  • an area for croquet or net games
  • a rope swing and a tyre swing hanging from a 100 year old Thuja tree
  • hammocks
  • a rope ladder from a naval ship
  • plenty of trees to climb and dens to make!

We also have a wonderful Nature Trail developed by Wildlife Wonders. If you are a keen bird and animal watcher, you will not be disappointed! If you are awake early, then you will hear our resident owls and perhaps the fox. Later in the day as the thermals improve, our resident buzzard will call to her young across the valley. Recently, she was spotted eating a slow worm on our drive! You will also hear the rhythmic knocking of the woodpecker, the spotted fly catcher can be seen nearer the Royal House and all sorts of creatures can be found around the ponds.

Take the time to rest a while and  wait for what you may see and hear!
