We are passionate about working with the planet, rather than against it, at Lower Coombe Royal. Our ‘Jewel in the Crown’, the eight acres of gardens, have always been organic, so we continue to garden organically. The gardener, Rose Wood, is a qualified gardener and is also passionate about her garden project at Lower Coombe Royal! Hopefully, you will meet her and share some knowledge whilst you visit.

Each of our cottages and apartments has been carefully and beautifully restored and interior designed with the environment as well as our guest comfort in mind. From the beginning we have worked with local people to make it happen. We have used FSC wood, insulated to a very high standard and used double glazing in new windows and are slowly restoring old sash windows with a draft proof system. A biomass boiler has been installed in the Coach House along with solar panels.

The accommodation has been furnished with quality old pieces, either from a local auction, the local newspaper or our collection! Then we have added woollen carpets, beds made from sustainable wood sources, organic mattresses, linen, throws and towels. The toiletries comprise a range of aromatherapy products made in Plymouth and our hamper consists entirely of locally produced food. An easy to use recycling system operates in each of our cottages and apartments. All the cleaning products we use are environmentally friendly and we also use half as much washing powder and dishwasher powder because of our soft water!
