This cosy 3-bedroom stone cottage is the perfect family hideaway. Situated next to the apple orchard and the historic American Garden, the 200-year old Coach House nestles up the valley, hidden away in its own private glade. The cottage has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, accommodating up to six people. It's a topsy-turvy house - the bedrooms are downstairs and the open-plan living space is upstairs, from where the terrace is accessed.

Downstairs

The master bedroom is spacious and has a king size bed (L 210cm x W170cm) with a Hypnos mattress. The en suite bathroom has a roomy walk-in shower with a teak seat. The second bedroom has a carved oak double bed with a Hypnos mattress (L200cm x W137cm). The third bedroom has bunk beds (L190cm x W90cm each) with patchwork quilts and is full of toys for the children. The family bathroom has a bath and shower. Both bathrooms have under-floor heating, heated towel rails and relaxing complimentary natural organic toiletries.

Upstairs

A sturdy Edwardian wooden staircase leads up to the bright, airy open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen has granite worktops and an integral dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine, electric oven and hob. (There's a tumble dryer in the Laundry room opposite Reception should you need it.) Cream cupboards contain plenty of crockery, glasses and cookware for family meals, as well as other useful gadgets like a food blender and a juicer. The living area has comfy Wesley Barrell sofas in designer fabric as well as a dining table and chairs. A stable door leads from the living room out onto a private terrace, surrounded by camellias and old apple trees, where you will find a large wooden patio table with reclining chairs, parasol and a barbecue. If you fancy a night in, there's a 32" television with Sky non-subscription channels and a DVD player. (A range of DVDs is available from Reception.) There is also a radio/CD and an iPod player, plus a huge bookcase full of books and games to keep everyone entertained.

An eco-friendly holiday home

We converted the Coach House from a derelict building, adding an extension made of local stone. It is very well insulated and double glazed throughout. All the energy provided is from renewable sources: solar panels to heat the water; a bio-mass boiler burns wood pellets to provide central heating and supplementary water heating; and electricity from a green supplier. The shed which houses the bio-mass boiler is also great for drying wet walking boots and clothes, if the need arises!
